Tumour Biology

Dr Andrew Reynolds, Team Leader of Tumour Biology

Overview

Tumour angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels into tumors, facilitates tumour growth and thus represents an attractive therapeutic target in breast cancer. A plethora of drugs have been designed to inhibit the process of tumour angiogenesis, including Avastin and sunitinib. However, although some patients respond to these drugs, others do not. Also, the development of acquired resistance to therapy is a major limiting factor in the successful treatment of cancer with these inhibitors. The Tumour Biology Team is interested in how the process of tumour angiogenesis contributes to tumour progression and how to effectively target angiogenesis as a therapeutic strategy in breast cancer.
