Breakthrough Breast Cancer monitors the research it funds in a number of different ways, but this is primarily through a formal reporting process. Annual and final reports are reviewed by Breakthrough’s Research Management Directorate and by our Scientific Advisory Committee and the Science Committee.

Annual Reports

All Principal Investigators are required to submit an annual report to Breakthrough. The purpose of an annual report is to track and monitor progress against pre-determined milestones, over the course of the research. Annual reports may also highlight areas that have been particularly challenging for the scientist and these may be referred to the expert committee for consideration and advice. In addition, Breakthrough uses annual (and final) reports to demonstrate progress and accountability to our many valued supporters.

Final Reports

In addition to annual reports, Breakthrough grant holders are required to submit a final report at the end of their grant, in which they are asked to summarise their research findings and report on any significant developments over the life-time of the grant.

Specific processes are also in place to monitor the progress of particular areas of research:
  • Monitoring our programme grants
  • Monitoring our clinical researchers
  • Monitoring clinical trials
