Translational Research Projects

Our aim is to conduct biochemical analyses to identify mechanisms of response and resistance to anti-hormone therapies.

  • Gene losses and amplifications in tumours resistant to tamoxifen
    Determining whether there are gene amplifications or losses in tumours resistant to tamoxifen (and subsequently aromatase inhibitors) and thereby identify novel putative resistance genes.
  • Determinants of response/benefit to aromatase inhibitors
    Identifying in primary breast cancers the molecular features and phenotypic and geneotypic determinants of response/benefit to aromatase inhibitors.
  • Loss of oestrogen receptor during the acquisition of tamoxifen resistance
    Validating quantitative real-time PCR analyses on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues, to identify the molecular characteristics of breast cancers that lose oestrogen receptor during the acquisition of tamoxifen resistance.
  • Image analysis
    Developing an image analysis capability to support immunohistochemical and FISH analyses in the Biochemistry and Breakthrough Pathology Core Facility.
